Yes. The monthly/quarterly lab meetings are a great opportunity to discuss your contributions (e.g., quality and quantity numbers) with your supervisor/manager. However, in addition to contributions, Connect conversations offer an opportunity to discuss continuous development, core values, and clarity (feedback). We encourage you to focus your attention on the other three sections of Connect if you feel you have covered the contributions section during your monthly/quarterly lab meetings. If you need any assistance, please contact your People Partner.
No. Connect focuses on continuous feedback rather than a once-a-year review. This conversation-based, employee-led program is designed to increase engagement and drive performance throughout the year. You will have two to three Connect conversations a year and a separate year-end compensation discussion when salary increases or special awards are available.
Many organizations have moved away from the annual performance review because they are ineffective at motivating, assessing, or improving performance. We changed how GIA approaches the performance review process to better drive individual and organizational performance and increase employee engagement. While working with employees and supervisors/managers to create a new process, we learned about concerns with the once-a-year performance review evaluation process. We then used that feedback and designed a new program to address the top concerns: frequency and fairness. If you missed it, check out the video from Lisa Garris to learn more about why and how we are implementing Connect.
Employees who use Outlook regularly can schedule their Connect conversation with their supervisor/manager using the Outlook Scheduler tool; check out this Percipio Course ‘Using the meeting scheduling tool’ for additional help.
Some supervisors/managers, specifically those with employees who do not regularly use Outlook, may use a printable ‘Connect Conversation Schedule Form’ with specific times they are available to meet. You can also ask your supervisor/manager what would work best.
To help guide you through the Workday process, we have created the Connect Workday Guide. Additionally, we have created the Connect Conversation Guide (available in multiple languages) for employees who want to prepare for their conversations outside of Workday. If you prepare for the conversation outside of Workday, be sure to enter your information into Workday at least a week before your scheduled conversation.
Employees will work with their supervisor/manager to set goals throughout the year. Every Connect conversation will include updates on progress toward goals and the ability to add new goals.
If a goal needs to be added, follow the steps included in the Connect Workday Guide.
Yes. All employees are required to complete Connect conversations. Employees will be assigned to the next Connect conversation based on their hire date.
For those who prefer to prepare your conversation outside of Workday, check out the PDF guide available in multiple languages. Please remember you will need to transfer your notes into Workday before your conversation.
Note: To save your work, download and then open the PDF from your files.
Check out the video messages from Vice President of Human Resources Lisa Garris. Lisa shares the business reasons for transitioning from the traditional annual performance review to the new Connect process.
